Food & Wine
Food and Wine are a big part of what our guests enjoy in Gougane Barra.
Katy and her dedicated team take responsibility for the food, and really enjoy cooking. We buy almost all of our food locally, the less distance it has to travel, the better it is for you and for us.
We live in an unspoilt natural landscape with a large amount of small producers making great food products, which are a pleasure to cook with.
Our menus are planned with the seasons and change according to what is available locally.
'The way the team run this magical hotel feels good, and that is why we all love it. They make their pear and almond scones- and their poached eggs on Lynch's toast (in business in Macroom for 150 years) and their Aga- roasted chicken with Gubbeen Bacon and rosemary gravy, and their baked crumble with homemade custard- not just because their customers love them, but because it is a happy and creative act, and a rewarding and generous testament of true hospitality' - Mc Kennas Guides 2020
We are excited to have an organic herb garden since summer of 2014. We also have rhubarb, salad leaves and fruit bushes.
Damien from Inchigeelagh grows organic salad leaves for us and delights us with beets, rainbow carrots and organic produce in season.
We are happy to plan special dietary requirements, please let us know ahead of your stay/dinner with us.
Neil developed an interest in wines when he was training in France and sources everything on our wine list, with care and attention. Working closely with our Wine Merchants, Le Caveau in Kilkenny, we have developed an interesting, fun, quirky and well-priced wine list which we know you will enjoy. Neil and his team in the restaurant are happy to advise on matching a wine or local craft beer to compliment your dinner or recommending something bubbly for a special occasion or a vintage port, liqeuer or dessert wine to finish dinner.
'Mr and Mrs Lucey are the king and queen of hospitality, their charming small hotel a testament to the most endearing, decent, most Irish manner of Irish hospitality you have ever enjoyed. There is nowhere like the Gougane Barra Hotel' - Mc Kenna Guides 2019
