A Place Apart, Gougane Barra Hotel

Welcome to a very special place, Gougane Barra, make ‘the journey’and realise just how special it is. Our lakeside location, in a valley surrounded by mountains add to the "get away from it all" factor, which is very strong here. St. Finbarr founded a monastery on an island in the lake in the 6th century and as always, the monks chose well. A tiny Oratory/Chapel sits on the island, it is one of the smallest and most romantic churches in the whole world. There is magic in the valley.

Our 26 bedroom West Cork hotel sits on the lakeshore and our family have been living here for 5 generations. Neil's grandparents, Connie and Joan Cronin opened this hotel in 1936, 8o years ago this year.
Our hotel is small and cosy with 26 bedrooms, and seasonal from April to October. We have a cute bar, two sitting rooms where you are welcome to drop in and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere here. Guests tend to return for generations, and new people are always welcome.
We have bikes, fishing, rowing boats and walking trails to the back door and are on the edge of Coillte’s National Forest Park. Make it a magical memory for a family gathering, an escape for no particular reason, a romantic get away, an activity break or a family walking holiday in the hills surrounding us.Visit Gougane Barra at least once in your lifetime to experience it. Make our home yours.
We believe in sharing the Magic.

"Neil and Katy's fine, handsome Gougane Barra Hotel will restore your faith in the value of the small, family-run hotel in rural Ireland. It's a place where the cooking is good, the hospitality is real, a place where the simplicity of the venture and the sincerity of everyone working here truly gladdens the heart."

"Once in the door, you just don’t want to leave for it captures your heart, immediately”.
