In Gougane Barra Lake
Bring your fishing gear and come to stay and fish in Gougane Barra Lake.
- The fishing season runs from 17th March until 12th October every year.
- The lake is recorded as 15 metres, but is deeper in places and the maximum depth of the lake remains unknown.
- We have everything else you need for some top quality fishing in West Cork: rowing boats, life-jackets, complimentary fishing permits for our guests.
- We will happily advise you on the ‘good places’ to fish and you can keep the fish you catch (though there is a size limit to respect).
- We will gladly cook your catch in the evening for you.
- See you at dinner time…
Fresh-water Fishing around West Cork
- As you follow the River Lee downstream to the nearby lake Lough Allua (10km from Gougane) there is excellent coarse fishing for pike, bream, rudd, and perch.
- A little further afield, the man-made larger lakes of Carrigadrohid and Iniscarra form part of the hydro systems on the river; these lakes are home to large stocks of bream. It's is not uncommon to land a 7lb fish!
- There are lakes in every direction from Gougane Barra, depending on the type of fishing that interests you, from a stocked lake at Lough Bofinne near Bantry Bay to game angling on the Lakes of Killarney and Lough Currane.
- It is also possible for us to organise fishing instruction/lessons from a renowned local Irish Angler... Please ask. We are more than happy to put you in touch with him.
Sea-angling
Ireland’s southwest region is an undiscovered paradise for sea-angling, with over 1000km of coastline over 33 species of fish and a mild climate; coastal areas are all very accessible from here in a day trip.
No fishermen’s excuses here!
